Wrong the cable that will be laid down
will handle any upgrade that may come in the future.
The servers that send the service may have to be changed but not the cable.

Well you probably know as well as I do the imense amount of pure unadulterated filth on the internet.
Do we really want our kids looking up and finding this stuff? Not to mention the perverts who use the information superhighway to find Child Porn and all that stuff.
I agree censorship is wrong, I agree slowing our internet down by 80% is unacceptable.
But how are we supposed to combat these growing problems? None of the protesters or Opposition has suggested an alternative.

sweet as! Thanks for the info.

Not looking forward to ineffective child porn filters either. They will slow my connection, but won’t stop the perverts.

Well he needs to speed up the internet considering his censorship of the net will slow it down by up to 80%. I have always wanted to live in a ideological back water like china

Don’t forget, the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Perth to Kalgoorlie Pipeline and the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme.
They all had their doubters and now they are great Australian industrial icons. Why not give future generations something to look back on with pride.

How so? Only the “senders” and “recievers” would need to be replaced.
Look at copper cable, we used them for 50+ years.
Don’t get me wrong, 40 billion dollars is an obscene amount that the australian tax payer will be burdened with but this is something we NEED.
We are a laughing stock amongst the western world for our slow and costly internet.
The market has failed us, they don’t give a shit about our future, they only care about making a buck today.

In roughly 8 years as they later stated. By which time it will be out of date.

That man is the worst thing to ever happen to Australia.

The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant.”
( Max De Pree )
The PM defined the situation wrt the vision. Defined the need to maintain and keep at the vision. Defined the allocation of resources to meet the need. Now is the turn of the men in his Administration to follow up what needs be done and when.
Good effective leadership here.

Telstra is a pig of a company that will not share its infostructer.
If you had paid attention over the last few years you would know that a lot of companys have had to take telstra to court to try and get some action.
The infostructer should have been sold as a separate deal .
Thank Howard for that mistake.
I will be buying the faster service if it is affordable.

Sound good.

OMG great decision.

Brilliant decision: who thought Rudd would deliver fibre to the home!
July 24th, 2010 at 7:32 am
That’s the plan as its written in the brochure that was released today.
July 24th, 2010 at 7:59 am
….are you serious!!!????? Telstra has been standing in the way of competition and innovation for years with respect to fixed line services. They’re not remotely interested in upgrading regional broadband (…..at least they weren’t until they were ruled out of the NBN, coincidence much!) and you think the government should ‘help’ them…..WTF!!!
July 24th, 2010 at 8:07 am
OMFG
July 24th, 2010 at 8:47 am
i see nothing positive coming out of this from a government who already wants to censor the internet – this is just a shameless way to brainwash the internet community/generation into voting for labor at the next election – telstra already has an existing network, but oh no, why help them when the government can just duplicate everything – waste of money much?
July 24th, 2010 at 9:41 am
PS. Kevin…..make sure you start from regional cities and move in toward the metro areas, which are already well serviced with ADSL2+ and cable.
